2025 Trends and the Home Remodeling Ideas We Think Are Worth Considering

We’ve been tickled to see many of the most well-known online design resources focusing on things that Details Construction Group has integrated for years now.

Unlike annual design trends that seem to fade before the latest Pantone-inspired paint color dries on the wall, we take a timeless approach to our clients’ home remodels.

2025 Home Remodel Success: Focus On Long-Term Outcomes

We’ve seen firsthand how the following design concepts and integrations yield successful home remodeling projects. Our completed projects serve clients in their present moments and are artfully crafted to meet their evolving needs.

So, as we head into the coming year, we’d like to focus on the predicted design trends we can confidently endorse.

Timeless Architectural Details

When you embark on a home renovation or remodeling project, you want to think about the present and future. This is especially true if you change your home layout or significantly alter architectural details. The time, energy, and expense it takes to make those changes require a very mindful approach, ensuring you never have to do that level of remodeling again.

Things like paint colors, area rugs, accent pillows, art and wall hangings -and even lighting fixtures and faucets – can be easily changed in a day or weekend. Those aspects are where you can let transient trends shine

However, timeless architectural details should last a lifetime. This includes things like:

  • Arched entryways or doorways.
  • Built-in shelving or customized storage in areas that lend themselves to a library entertainment center, home office, nook, etc.
  • Marble slabs or tiles in bathrooms.
  • Integrating natural materials like wood and stone.
  • Focusing on accents that yield a transitional finish so future home buyers can go more traditional or contemporary without needing to change much.
  • Designs that inherently convey an aesthetic sense of harmonious proportions and balance.

If you can honor this single principle, the rest will flow more easily into place.

Living Room Kitchens

If you’ve been researching upcoming design trends for 2025, odds are you’ve come across the term “English kitchen design.” While some design specifics of an English kitchen may become dated, the concept is centuries old.

Many who choose an open-concept home design have already embraced this concept; the goal being to design a kitchen space nearly as comfortable as a living room. This is accomplished with features like:

  • Recessing the oven and cooktop into its own alcove (a great place to add an arch).
  • Personalizing the kitchen island(s) for optimum workflow and entertaining space.
  • Optimizing any seating so that it’s as comfortable as possible.
  • Integrating a blend of eclectic accents so that there’s a sense of history and warmth is the same way there would be in a kitchen that has been used for multiple generations.

Custom Cabinetry

We can’t emphasize the value of custom cabinetry enough – in the kitchen, your bathrooms, home, office, linen closets, and so on. The space-saving benefits of customizing cabinets may automatically increase usable square footage in smaller bathrooms and kitchens.

The longer you spend time in your home (more on that below), the more you will appreciate having cabinetry and storage areas thoughtfully designed so everything you need is exactly where you want it.

Wet Rooms or Luxury Shower Rooms

If you plan to remodel a hall bath or master bath in the next few years, we highly recommend speaking to your design-build team about wet rooms or a luxury shower room.

The wet room concept integrates the tub and shower in the same space – walled off using a tile or pure glass wall/door to keep the water in a single area. This concept is popular in countries like Japan and is certainly beneficial for households with young children.

If you opt to forego a tub altogether or you like where the tub is currently situated, another option is to create a shower room. This takes the luxury shower concept to the next level, offering more space to enjoy the features inherent in a spa-inspired shower, like steam and sauna features, aromatherapy, wide benches, customized niches for products, etc.

Planning For the Future

Earlier in the post, we said the completed remodel should meet your household’s needs now while wisely keeping a finger on the pulse of your future goals.

When we meet with you to begin the design process, we’ll also want to know about things like:

  • Whether or not you plan to age in place in your home? Do aging parents or grandparents visit regularly? In this case, we’ll show you how easy it is to integrate contemporary, stylish features that enhance accessibility.
  • Are there any plans to sell your home in the next three, five, or ten years? If so, we’ll want to evaluate remodeling choices that optimize home value and appeal to prospective buyers.
  • If you have children, do you plan to stay in the home for the entirety of their childhood? Or will you be empty-nesters in the next five years or so? We’ll help you balance which concepts and features make the most sense in the long term.
  • Is there a chance you would be turning your home into a rental? If this is the case, durability and low-maintenance finishes should be prioritized; and there are many ways to accomplish that while still achieving a high-end aesthetic.
